As Christmas creeps ever closer, so does the end of 2019, and with that comes the usual “New Year, new me” motto. But although studies have shown that most people give up on their New Year resolutions before the end of January (from nypost), if you are inspired to make a change, the start of a New Year is a great time to start.

Here are some of our ideas of achievable New Years resolutions!

Save money

Christmas is the most expensive time of the year, with the average household spending around £800 more than usual according to the Bank of England. So it’s no wonder that come New Year you want to save!

Why not take the 1p challenge. It’s very simple and works like this: on 1st January 2020, put 1p into a pot. The next day, add 2p. After that, put in 3p etc. adding an extra penny each day. By the end of the year you will have £667.95, and the most you’ve put in on any one day will be £3.65!

There are also apps out there that can help by calculating your incomings and outgoings and then take small amounts into a savings account over time. Usually they only take a couple of pounds each time, but it soon adds up!

Exercise

This is one of the age old resolutions, but people soon get bored of going to the gym. However, there are other ways to exercise too.

Why not go for a bike ride with the whole family, or maybe a hike? You could join a local badminton team or jog at a nearby park. You can even get exercise bikes for your home, so you can avoid the wet weather and have no excuse not to do it!

Exercise is not only great for your physical health, but for your mental health too. It helps you to relax and sleep better, and can be a great way to make new friends.

Volunteer

There are so many worthy causes and charities throughout the UK, and if you have any free time that you can give them it will always be appreciated. Causes such as local Air Ambulances, Cancer Research, Mind and many more have High Street shops where you can help out.

You may also be able to help out at a local care home, community group or school. Get in touch with them and see how you can make a difference.

Catch up with old friends

If you’ve got an old friend you haven’t seen for a long time, why not contact them? You may have gone in different directions, moved away from home and lost touch, but with today’s technology it’s easy to send them a message and invite them for a coffee!

Do something you want to do

Have you thought about writing your own book? Or maybe you’d like to learn an instrument? Why not make this the year you do it!

Joining a local group or club can not only give you a new skill but can also find you new friends with similar interests. After all, you’re all there for the same reason!
